XenData Announces New
Compliant Storage Solution Based on DLTIce WORM Media
XenData Archive Series Software to
Support Tape Libraries with SDLT 600 Drives, including Archiving to DLTIce
WORM Media for Compliant Storage
Cambridge, UK and Walnut Creek,
California -- March 16, 2005 - XenData today announced that the next release
of its Archive Series software will
support the SDLT 600 tape format including DLTIceTM
functionality from Quantum Corporation (NYSS:DSS). This provides a new range of
high performance storage solutions for compliance and allows companies to use
standard SDLT drives and media to meet regulatory
requirements for secure, unalterable data retention.
XenData Archive Series
software runs on a Windows Server and manages RAID and a tape library to create
a highly scalable archive file server. The solution is ideally suited to
archiving and retrieving large volumes of data - from terabytes to over a
petabyte - generated by digital video, medical imaging, document imaging, email
archiving, satellite imaging and other scientific applications.
DLTIce is functionality available within SDLT 600 tape
drives that provides a write once, read many (WORM) format. WORM is an
unalterable format that is ideal when data authenticity and
legal compliance are important. Unlike other WORM tape solutions, DLTIce
provides unalterable storage without need for special media.
The XenData software allows an administrator to create a pool of WORM tapes, all
of which are initialized with DLTIce. During the initialization process
DLTIce writes an electronic key to each tape to ensure WORM integrity.
The XenData software reports this unique identifier which ensures the
authenticity of the data.
XenData Archive Series software is optimized for compliant
storage, unlike conventional backup software. In particular, it provides the
following key functionality:
-
Files are written simultaneously to RAID and WORM tape which
effectively provides a continuous backup. By writing immediately to
unalterable WORM tape, data authenticity is assured.
-
A full audit trail of all files written to WORM tape is
provided which ensures all old versions of files and previously deleted files
can be retrieved. This prevents the unacceptable situation where data is written
to WORM media but cannot be retrieved by the software.
-
The software automatically produces one or more copies of the
WORM tape cartridges. This is a mandatory requirement for SEC17a-4 compliance.
XenData software will initially
provide support for SDLT 600 and DLTIce with tape libraries from
Quantum and Qualstar Corporation (NASDAQ: QBAK).
"XenData software with Qualstar
tape automation has been a successful combination for a number of our
governmental and commercial end-users, said Bob Covey, VP of Marketing for
Qualstar. "We welcome that XenData is broadening its support to include our
range of SDLT tape libraries."
XenData will include support for
SDLT 600 and DLTIce in both the Advanced Edition and Video Edition of
its Archive Series software beginning in April.
