Advice on using the Sony LIB-81 Tape Library

Library Description

The Sony LIB-81 tape library is a compact 1U rack-mount unit that incorporates one AIT drive and eight tape cartridge slots.

Library Specific Characteristics

The LIB-81 allows the user to import tapes to any slot, including the slot allocated to a tape cartridge that is in the tape drive. If this occurs, it causes an error condition.

Please ensure that tapes are only imported to unallocated slots in the LIB-81. The slot allocation of all tapes can be established via the XenData Management Console.

[Note that this is not a problem with most other tape libraries, including the Sony LIB-162, because these devices allow XenData Archive Series software to automatically move a tape cartridge to an unallocated slot. The LIB-81 does not support such a slot to slot move operation.]
