Version 3.21

Release date: August 24,  2004

A summary of changes follows:

Improved Performance  Write performance is improved. This is only significant for large numbers of small files.

Bug Fixes and Reliability Improvements A number of bug fixes and reliability improvements are implemented.

Version 3.22

Release date: October 1,  2004

A summary of changes follows:

Increased Hardware Support  Support for Qualstar RLS-4124 and RLS-5116 autoloaders added.

Improved Performance  Performance has been improved slightly by improving the system’s use of multithreading and by enhancing integration with the Windows system cache.

Bug Fixes and Reliability Improvements  Fixed bug: Setting "replicate at" doesn't work if the time zone is not GMT.  A number of other minor bug fixes are implemented.

Version 3.23

Release date: December 10,  2004

A summary of changes follows:

Improved Hardware Support  Added mail-slot support for Breece Hill 10 PAK tape libraries (Breece Hill firmware version 1.47).

Bug Fixes and Reliability Improvements  Improved reliability of AIT-WORM initialization. Fixed bug that caused lock-up on file read with some multi-processor machines. Fixed bug that could cause spurious error messages with File Groups that were not saved to tape and which had ‘save history’ disabled.

Version 3.24

Release date: February 21,  2005

A summary of changes follows:

Enhancements  File Group rules are now case insensitive by default. Improved support for email alerts on NAS servers. Improved support for DSM tape libraries

Bug fixes, including: Fixed potential Windows STOP error that can occur with versions 3.22 and 3.23 under extreme stress conditions. Fixed incorrect file sizes and attributes when upgrading from prior version. Fixed incorrect file size following Import Catalog or Import Data of large files > 4GB. Fixed bug that could cause spurious error messages with File Groups that were not saved to tape and which had ‘save history’ disabled.

Version 3.25

Release date: April 15,  2005

A summary of changes follows:

Enhanced Support  AIT-4 drives are now supported. XenData software installation changed to support Server 2003 Service Pack 1.

Enhancements  Retry characteristics in response to tape cartridge mount failures are changed to accommodate Sony AIT-3 drive type SDX-700V. Handling is introduced for an occasional glitch with Sony AIT drives, type SDX–xxxV, which sometimes erroneously report zero capacity for a tape

Version 3.30

Release date: May 27,  2005

It is a major new release which incorporates a large number of product improvements. A summary of changes follows:

Available in Two Editions  In addition to the Advanced Edition, the software is alternatively available in the Video Edition. The Video Edition is designed for digital video archiving applications and must be run on a higher performance server. The Video Edition optimizes data throughput at the expense of increased cache memory consumption. Consequently, the minimum RAM and other server hardware requirements are higher than for the Advanced Edition.

Increased Range of Supported Tape Drive and Library Types  This release now supports a broader range of libraries including those with LTO-2, LTO-3 and SDLT 600 drive types. Comprehensive support for HP’s LTO-3 WORM and Quantum’s DLTIce tape formats is included.

Increased Hardware Diagnostics and Support The following are added: (a) handling of tape alerts from drives; (b) pages of information about tape drives and libraries; (c) the ability to disable individual tape drives and the library; (d) the ability to open a library mail slot via the user interface; (e) automatic idle demount of tapes from drives; and (e) improved recovery from replication failures caused by drive hardware problems.

Increased Media Information  A "last alert" field is added to the information maintained about each tape cartridge.

Drive Cleaning  Support for handling of cleaning cartridges and automatic drive cleaning are added.

Quarantined Media  A quarantined media set is added for cartridges that cannot be identified or whose labels conflict with the database.

Change to POSIX TAR Tape Format  The data format written to new XenData Volumes is changed from GNU TAR to POSIX TAR which allows file fragments to be increased in size beyond the 8 GB limit of the GNU standard. This version 3.30 is fully backwards read compatible with previous versions of the software.

Improved Performance with Large Files  A number of performance improvements are included in this release, especially for large files. In particular, when a file is being read from tape, data is sent to the application as soon as it has been read rather than waiting for the complete fragment file to be read before returning any data.

Bug Fixes  A number of bug fixes are added including the following: (a) improved operation of the XenData Management Console UI; (b) support for path names longer than 256 characters; (c) improved handling of errors caused by hardware failures is added; (d) a bug is fixed that meant ‘import catalog’ operations would not always show the correct write time for a file.

Version 3.31

Release date: September 27,  2005

A summary of changes follows:

Increased Media and Library Support  This release supports the Sony CSM-20 and Spectra Logic T50, T120 and T950 tape libraries. Support for AIT-4 WORM media is added.

Bug Fixes  Version 3.30 has a bug associated with file renaming which is fixed in this version. With the prior version when a file is renamed, it can generate a number of symptoms including stopping of the XenData service and a loss of file version information as displayed by XenData History Explorer. Also a bug associated with file locking is fixed. This provides compatibility with Veritas Enterprise Vault. A number of minor bugs are also corrected.

Version 3.32

Release date: February 11,  2006

A summary of changes follows:

Increased Library Support  This release adds support for ADIC Scalar, Quantum PX720 and Dell PX122T tape libraries. Support for operation of the Breece Hill iStoRA front panel is improved.

Support for New XenData Modules  It adds support for the new XenData Alert Module which is sold separately. Also support for a new XenData metadata backup utility is included. This utility will be included in a future standard product release.

Improved Diagnostics  Diagnostics are improved in a number of areas including broader support for tape alerts.

Bug Fixes  This release fixes a bug that under some circumstances could cause the excessive consumption of CPU resources. A number of minor bugs are also corrected.

Version 3.33

Release date: October 2,  2006

A summary of changes follows:

Default Connection to XenData License Server   This release connects to the IP address of the new XenData license server by default. It removes the need to run the utility described in XenData Tech Note XTN601

Bug Fixes  A few minor bugs are also corrected.
